Volcán Compañia Minera Selects Newtrax as Safety & Productivity Partner
Carahuacra, Yauli, Perú – August 2017 — Newtrax Technologies Inc. (‘Newtrax’) – the leading provider of safety and operations management systems for underground hard rock mines – has been selected by Volcán Compañia Minera for the deployment of safety and productivity solutions at its Carahuacra underground mine, including proximity detection, collision avoidance, mobile gas detection, and personnel and mobile equipment tracking.
Volcán is the first Peruvian underground mining company to require as a safety policy the use of Proximity Warning, Equipment and Personnel Tracking, and Mobile Gas Detection technologies to improve the safety standards of its mining operations. To avoid collisions and ensure that workers return home safe and sound, as well to increase productivity, Volcán has chosen Newtrax Technologies to implement a Collision Avoidance System and a Mobile Gas Detection and Tracking System. It is convinced that the use of these safety and production products for workers and equipment will make operations safer and more profitable, both in the short and long terms.
Volcán is Newtrax’s first Peruvian client. In the Carahuacra mine, more than 1,000 miners will be equipped with the Newtrax-enabled Personal Safety Device (cap lamp), which features Proximity, Tracking, Evacuation and Man Down alerts. In addition, 94 mining vehicles will be equipped with Tracking, Activity Monitoring and Proximity Warning systems. Volcán has also acquired Newtrax’s wireless gas monitoring system, which will reduce the time required for shift changes and resumption of ore extraction operations after scheduled blast operations by providing gas readings at the mine’s working faces.
“The Volcán solutions package is one of the four most important systems sold by Newtrax Latin America allowing us to expand our branches in Santiago, Chile and Lima, Perú,” said Stéphane Cantin, Newtrax’s Vice-President for Latin America. “The Carahuacra project, like other Newtrax sales in Latin America, includes a contract for remote support and technical specialists at the site. Three Newtrax specialist engineers will be on site during the two years of support Volcán selected in the initial purchase of the system.”
