Newtrax is Attending Mines and Money Asia 2018

Newtrax will be making its first-ever appearance at the 11th Annual Mines and Money Asia conference in Hong Kong, China, on April 3-6, 2018. It will our first time attending this essential conference and are looking forward to sharing our learnings, provide inspiration and most of all spend time with your customers and peers.

We will also be taking one-on-one meeting requests for those who are interested in learning more about how Newtrax helps mines achieve their digitization goals with the latest Internet-of-Things (IoT) and analytics technologies.

Mining Safety: The Newtrax Mission

When trying to integrate safety technologies there are two very important component questions to keep in mind:

  1. Is the technology easy to use?
  2. Does the system reliably work?

With these in mind, Newtrax wanted to incorporate a product into their system that would create a central point of communication to connect all miners, vehicle operator’s, and safety personnel to the mining network.

Newtrax chose to make the focal point of communication attached to the miners cap lamp. Besides the fact that a cap lamp is a tool that miners simply cannot leave behind, it also provides personnel with a system that is always in reach and simple to operate. There are three key safety features that are constantly available to miners and to above ground personnel.

Proximity Alert-

A major safety issue in underground mining is the threat of vehicular accidents against pedestrian miners and between each other. In recent years, it was reported that a large proportion of mining accidents are caused by a lack of visibility. Newtrax Cap Lamps are equipped with two buttons on the side of the cap. When pressed, the systems sends an emergency stop signal to all mining vehicles in the area.

Evacuation Alert-

In the case of an evacuation, the Cap Lamps have been designed to individually start to blink, signaling the need to seek a refuge room or exit the mine. In order for the cap lamps to stop blinking and return to normal, the miner must turn the lamp off and back on again. This signals to emergency crews above ground that each of the individual miners received the message and is responding to the situation.

Man Down Alert-

In the case of a miner collapsing from injury or health issue, the Cap Lamp will begin to blink. After 60 seconds of immobility, the Cap Lamp will alert crew members in the vicinity. If the Cap Lamp remains still for an additional 30 seconds (90 seconds total), it will send the “man down” signal to rescue workers above ground while at the same time notifying team members and vehicles in the area.

Newtrax to Present at the SME 2018 Annual Conference

Newtrax will be presenting at the SME 2018 Annual Conference

SME annual conference

Newtrax will be highlighted at this year’s edition of the SME Annual Conference on February 27 at 9:25 a.m. Room 101D

Today’s underground mining operations must optimize every step of the mineral extraction process in order to remain profitable in all market conditions.

At this year’s Annual SME Conference, Newtrax is excited to be presenting “Improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness: Mobile
Equipment Telemetry in Underground Mining
” to showcase to our peers how the Newtrax Mobile Equipment Telemetry (MET) solution enabled an underground mine to quickly identify that their trucks were hauling average payloads which were significantly below the nominal capacity of their trucks.

Please join us on February 27th, at 9:25 a.m. Room 101D as we present the many ways that MET systems can make a direct impact on a mine operation’s bottom line by delivering near real-time data to managers about the overall effectiveness of their fleets.

Our VP of Canada & USA, Craig Banks,  will be presenting at the Conference. Please don’t hesitate to contact him to book a meeting or for any questions on how we can help increase productivity and safety in your mine.
