Newtrax, in collaboration with Defense R&D Canada Valcartier and the Canadian Communication Research Center, is developing the next generation of Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) for remote persistent surveillance.

This new generation of UGS uses ultra low power electronics and advanced power management algorithms to detect, classify and provide immediate notification of human activity:

  • Detection and classification with onboard passive infrared, magnetic perturbation, seismic and acoustic sensors
  • Built-in tampering detection
  • Each UGS is also a wireless repeater/router and therefore extends network coverage
  • Self-organizing and self-healing multihop wireless networking capability enhances the overall network reliability
  • High-granularity decentralized sensor fields enable optimal detection of personnel on foot
  • Distributed multihop cross-cueing between UGS increases sensor data reliability, effectively reducing false alarms
  • Remote configuration enables each user to tailor the system to his notification requirements
  • Self-contained autonomous battery life of several months or years depending on configuration
