Automated Manufacturing Developer

Location : Montreal, Quebec, Canada


  • Design, build, modify and repair QC (Quality Control) test fixtures for electronics manufacturing of Newtrax products:
  • Write Hardware and Software design document and apply review comments
  • Write Test control software on PC (or on an embedded platform)
  • Write Test Firmware on microcontrollers and embedded Linux products
  • Use adequate protocols between test fixture elements
  • Design electronic board of the QC fixtures: functional tests, bed of nails
  • Consider RF requirements: isolation cells, wired RF, splitters, attenuators
  • Consider mechanical constraints: can be used at Contract Manufacturer to build thousands of PCBs
  • Provide traceability: implement a database for QC fixture test results
  • Analyze test results, identify trends
  • Measure yield
  • Manage versions of QC fixtures
  • Document procedures for using the QC fixtures
  • Train and support Contract Manufacturers that will be using the QC fixtures
  • Contribute to accelerate manufacturing process (improving lead time)
  • Reduce cost of manufacturing through best practices in automation
  • Optimize the manufacturing process, including electronics and mechanical assembly steps
  • Help design KPIs for quality control of electronics manufacturing
  • Work closely with R&D team and maintain tight feedback loop
  • Identify best activities to prioritize based on R.O.I. (Return on investment)
  • Adhere to relevant ISO compliance
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement using CAPA (Corrective Action Preventive Action) and other methods
  • Understand and consider the harsh conditions of the end-user environment in underground hard rock mines and the necessity of quality inherent to Newtrax Productivity and Safety systems
  • Adhere to the corporate Scrum framework and Agile philosophy and consider Lean and/or Kanban methods


  • Excellent understanding of the process of mass production of electronic devices including box-build (mechanical)
  • Programming skills, including scripting
  • Some experience with communications protocols (RS-232, Ethernet, UART, I2C, SPI, USB, RS-485, etc.)
  • Ability to design electronic circuits for creating test fixtures
  • Ability to troubleshoot testing issues during development and during manufacturing
  • Ability to stay on top of new technologies
  • Ability to consolidate data produced by the QC test fixtures
  • Some knowledge of environmental tests: temperature, liquid/vapor water ingress, atmospheric pressure, oxidation, drop-tests, vibration, impact
  • Mechanical skills (an asset)
  • Knowledge of version control tools (an asset)
  • Good knowledge of Ms-Excel

  • Bachelor of Engineering in automated manufacturing, electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and years of relevant experience
  • 2+ years of experience developing automated manufacturing
